When looking into a Golden Visa, many people focus only on the initial investment — but the recurring travel costs are just as important. Take Portugal: you're required to spend 7 days during the first year, and 14 days every two years after that. In Latvia, you must visit at least once per year to maintain your permit. Greece and Hungary, on the other hand, don’t require any physical presence to keep residency status.

But here's what’s often overlooked: if you’re traveling from Asia, Africa or other distant regions, the cost of flights, hotels, and time away from home can easily amount to thousands of euros every year. Even if the required stay is short, the effort and expense can be significant. These hidden, recurring costs should absolutely be factored into your overall planning — because over time, they can be just as impactful as the initial investment itself.
